Bill Gladden
Executive Director
In his own words, Bill describes why French & Pickering is a natural fit:
“Growing up in western Pennsylvania, nature and the the outdoors played a central role in my youth. I spent many afternoons turning over rocks in the creek, exploring woodlands and enjoying family outings to local state parks. The topography of northern Chester County reminds me of western PA, and has a special place in my heart. I feel fortunate to love my ‘job’.”
Bill brought over 25 years of conservation experience to French & Pickering when he joined the organization in 2018. As Executive Director, he works to increase the pace of preservation, improve public access to our two signature preserves and strengthen the organization’s financial foundation. He is passionate about French & Pickering’s efforts to connect people to the land in northern Chester County and to elevate awareness about the organization as well as conservation in general.
Bill is currently on the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association’s policy advisory committee, as well as a member of the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture. Previously, he served on the Board of Directors for YMCA of the Brandywine Valley and was President of Schuylkill River Greenways Association. Bill was awarded Volunteer of the Year in East Brandywine Township for his service on the Open Space Committee and Parks & Recreation Board.
Outside of French & Pickering, you can find Bill enjoying a stroll in the woods with his girlfriend, bragging about his adult sons, puttering in the yard, and spending as much time as possible in the ocean.
Interesting Fact: One of Bill’s saltwater highlights is a successful 10-day sail around the DelMarVa with Captain Erik and crew.
