LEAVE YOUR LASTING LEGACY
When you make a planned, or estate gift to French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust, you can feel good knowing that you are making a lasting difference in the community. Members of the Legacy Society are recognized as making a special, lasting gift to French & Pickering, and are invited to special events.
Bequests are the most popular form of planned giving. Bequests enable donors to reduce their estate taxes while supporting their community. A charity, specifically French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust, can be named to receive a percentage, a dollar amount, or the remainder of a donor’s estate. Here is sample language for donors to include in their wills: “I give __% or $____ or the remainder of my estate to French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust, EIN 23-6429095.” French & Pickering encourages donors and professional advisors to discuss charitable considerations as part of their estate planning discussions. If you make a bequest to French & Pickering, please notify the Development Office, so you can be recognized as part of the Legacy Society.
Many people choose to designate charities as the beneficiaries of their Individual Retirement Accounts. The donor continues to take regular lifetime withdrawals, and maintains the flexibility to change beneficiaries if their desires change during their lifetime. Upon passing, the charitable beneficiary avoids the potential double taxation the person’s retirement savings would face if they were designated to heirs. To designate, a person should simply contact their IRA or retirement plan administrator and request, fill out, and return a Change of Beneficiary Form. Most are available online. The donor would name French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust, EIN 23-6429095 as beneficiary of all or a portion of the balance of their IRA. This would pass to French & Pickering when the person deceases. It is best to let the charity know what your plan is. French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust would be pleased to be the beneficiary of your IRA, and would use the funds as designated to continue protecting the natural resources of beautiful Chester County.
Individuals at least 70½ years old can make tax-free charitable distributions from IRAs to French & Pickering. The impact of income and estate taxes on your IRA still makes it a favorable asset to contribute to French & Pickering through a beneficiary designation.
Gifts of life insurance allow donors the leverage of making a major charitable gift at a fraction of the face value of the policy. The donor provides a substantial gift through a modest contribution of insurance premiums. Donors name French & Pick as a beneficiary, or contingent beneficiary of an existing policy, or donate a fully paid policy. The donor gives the amount of the premium to French & Pickering annually and receives an income tax deduction for that amount. French & Pickering pays the premium to the insurance company. Tax Consequences: When contributing a new policy, the donor receives an annual income tax deduction for the premium payments OR when contributing an existing policy, the donor receives a one-time income tax deduction for the amount of cash value in the policy.
